Summer Term Financial Aid for Undergraduate Students
Financial Aid Available for the Summer Term
Federal Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, PLUS Loans and Alternative Loans are available for summer school.
If you plan to attend summer school, you must:
- Have a complete financial aid file which includes:
- a processed FAFSA for the prior academic year that lists UMass Boston and has a valid EFC
- a Financial Aid Award Notification
- Complete the verification process, if selected for verification.
- You must visit the One Stop Student Administrative Services Center, with a copy of your summer registration, and request a summer clearance form. You may enroll for classes during either session I or II, or divide them between sessions. You must register for at least 6 total credits for the summer to be eligible for Federal Stafford Loans, PLUS Loans and certain Alternative Loans.
- Have completed the spring semester as a UMass Boston student in a degree or eligible certificate program.
- Have been in good academic standing in the prior award year. (See Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy).
Other Information
- Summer Federal Pell Grants are awarded to students from their prior academic year's eligibility.
- If you enroll for an insufficient number of credits during the summer session, your Federal Pell Grant, Stafford Loan(s), PLUS Loan(s) and/or Alternative Loan(s) will be cancelled.
- Federal Direct Loan requires that were enrolled for at least six (6) credits in the Spring and if you will enroll for at least six (6) summer credits or credit equivalencies, your loan may be increased for summer expenses up to Federal limits.
- If you enroll for fewer than six (6) credits or credit equivalencies during the summer, Federal Direct Loans, PLUS Loans and certain Alternative Loans cannot be processed for you. You will be responsible for your summer school bill.
- If you plan to take summer courses at another accredited institution, you must provide FAS with a copy of your Prior Approval form obtained from Undergraduate Admissions and a completed Consortium Agreement (see Consortium Agreements). Copies of the Consortium Agreement are available at the One Stop Student Administrative Services Center (Campus Center, UL) or can be downloaded here.
