The Student Trustee

Each of the five UMass campuses has a student trustee, elected by all
students on campus and appointed by the governor to serve on the University’s Board of Trustees. These students work with business, education, and community leaders to direct the institution’s future.

The student trustee’s office is W/4/172 (617-287-7971).

Service and Leadership

For more detailed information, visit: www.umb.edu/about_umb/community_outreach

Outside of the classroom, UMass Boston offers students a number of opportunities to participate in activities involving community outreach and leadership development. Prominent among these activities are the ones described here.

The Office of Service Learning and Community Outreach

One function of the Office of Service Learning and Community Outreach (OSLCO) is to serve as a clearinghouse for volunteers. Students seeking volunteer opportunities can be matched with community agencies doing work that meets the students’ needs and goals. Many of these opportunities support and enhance classroom learning, offer relevant experience, and provide a basis for network building. OSLCO works with students and faculty to integrate community-based learning into the classroom, so students may receive academic credit for their service. Students are welcome to participate in OSLCO activities. For further information, call OSLCO at 617-287-7955.
