ROOMMATE MATCHING SERVICE

To assist students with the challenges involved in locating an affordable place to live, in the Fall of 2003 we put together a new program that will help our students in their roommate search; this program is called the Roommate Matching (RM) Service. Over the years, this program has shown great promise, and much of the feedback we get from students, parents, staff, and faculty has demonstrated that the program indeed addresses the needs of our students.

However, the program is designed to serve only as a connection point among UMass Boston students who want to live near the campus. The challenge for the Office of Student Housing, as always, is how we can better serve our students. Demonstrating an exceptionally high level of personalized service, we collect information from prospective roommates about their needs and interests by asking them to fill out the Roommate Matching Form (included in this booklet) and then match them with others who have similar needs and interests.

This program was intended to help students’ find affordable housing by sharing the cost of off-campus housing and to help students build a strong community within the neighboring communities. The program not only helps us reach our students and allows our students to reach us, but it also gives commuter students an opportunity to know other UMass students and feel part of the larger university community.
