The Beacon Leadership Project is a two semester course designed to enhance the leadership skills of UMass Boston students.  This is achieved through in-class presentations by faculty, group exercises and hands-on learning experiences. The BLP prides itself on providing an environment in which students can be active participants in their own learning.  Students in the BLP will spend the first semester developing a foundation in leadership skills by learning theories about leadership and group dynamics.  The second semester will be spent creating a service learning project that addresses a specific need in the community about which the student feels passionately.

The BLP offers a unique experience to earn credit towards graduation, form networks within the UMass Boston community, and gain important and lifelong leadership skills.
