How to Apply:

It is important to determine whether you are a new student (no UMass Boston credits earned) or a continuing student.

If you are a newly accepted student, please download our brochure for complete information (PDF). Once you have read through the brochure and determined your eligibility, complete the application form and follow the directions for supporting documentation and submission to the Merit Scholarship Office by the appropriate deadlines.

If you are applying for January, 2010 admission, please take a look at the Chancellor's Scholarship (see the brochure download above) which has a deadline of December 15, 2009.

Important Note:  We are currently undergoing a redesign of our webpages.  Please note that the Boston Globe Scholars Program, the University Scholars Program, and the Commonwelath Scholars Program, all which may appear in the search portion of this site, are no longer available. We are expanding other programs to compensate for these changes.  Also, the Parenting Student Scholars Program is no longer accepting applications.

Continuing UMass Boston Students-Continuing enrollment for the 09-10 academic year.

Continuing students have earned at least one semester (12 credits) and preferably two semester's (24 credits) worth of full time credit. It is important to remember that most scholarships are by application, and that the application period is the semester prior the to award distribution.  So you apply in the fall for the spring; in the spring for the fall.

The fall deadline is in mid November. Most scholarships for continuing students are SPRING awards, so you should apply in the FALL. However, there are several scholarship for which the application process takes place in the SPRING and the funds are disbursed for the following FALL.  These deadlines are usually in March and April.  See below for any current opportunities.

Current Opportunities:

The merit scholarship application process for the fall semester consists of one general application that serves to collect a lot of information about you and to help us determine scholarships for which you may be a candidate.  With this comprehensive process, you are not applying for specific scholarship programs, but for merit scholarships in general.

The latest application is available below.  The deadline is November 12, 2009.  Awards will be made for the spring 2010 semester.   You are free to submit your application as soon as it is complete, but please keep in mind that the committee review will not begin until the deadline has passed.

Please email questions to merit.scholarships@umb.edu
