Save Gas

Nothing in the United States Constitution says "Thou shall drive everywhere" but with our dependency for convenience we are ultimately killing our Earth and wallets. Sitting in traffic, have you ever noticed there is almost always only one person per car? Gas prices are through the roof and will only get worse; find an alternative.

Take Public TransportationUMASS/JFK Station Sign
I would happily declare any day that the Redline is one of Boston's best public transportation lines; it runs all the time and there are always seats! Lucky for us, UMass Boston is minutes away from the JFK/UMass Redline stop and shuttle busses take you to and from the front door throughout the entire day.

Step outside of your safety zone (your car) by placing yourself into new situations - saving the Earth is simply a bonus!

Carpool
I bet you do not even realize it, but there are probably dozens of UMB students who commute from your neighborhood and community. Do your best to find a fellow commuter near you and talk about possibly carpooling. At first consider it a trial period and if things work out, set up class schedules to coincide and suggest others join to lower costs further! Students could alternate driving and/or paying for the $6 parking fee.

Carpool lanes shave hours off of your commute each week but whatever you do, do not use the carpool lane without really having a passenger because the State Police give out tickets all the time!
