A Record Grant for Lifelong Learning

$2.1 million from the Bernard Osher Foundation—the largest non-research grant in the university’s history—will give a major boost to two UMass Boston programs: the Osher Institute for Lifelong Learning, which offers non-credit courses, lunchtime discussions, field trips, and other educational opportunities for retirees; and the Osher Reentry Scholarship Program, which sponsors scholarships for older undergraduates whose studies have been interrupted by circumstances beyond their control. An additional $1 million from the Massachusetts Public Higher Education Endowment Incentive Program will match the grant, creating a total endowment of $3 million. In the photo are three Osher Reentry Scholars, Dana Bordenave (far left), Bonnie Freyer (second from right) and Bonnie Godas (far right). They join Chancellor Motley and Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management Kathleen Teehan at an October reception for scholarship recipients.
