Participation by alumni, students, faculty, staff
and university friends endorses publicly UMass Boston's
mission and aspirations.
Participation by alumni, tallied by counting the number of alumni who give to
the UMass Boston Fund, represents 25% of all private support for the university.
Alumni give to show gratitude for their UMass Boston education, to express their belief
in the ideals of public higher education and to strengthen their alma mater.
Every gift, in any amount, brings our alumni participation rate higher.
Corporations, foundations and other donors use alumni participation rates to gauge consumer confidence when considering large gifts to help fund critical research initiatives and programs. Furthermore, potential students use rankings to select colleges and universities, like those in US News and World Report’s Americas Best Colleges, which are boosted by giving rates.
Participation by students offers the opportunity to engage in UMass Boston's values of community service through becoming acquainted with the importance of charitable giving in creating a strong society.
Participation by faculty and staff members demonstrates a deep commitment to the university's role as an agent of social and cultural change. Twelve percent of current faculty and staff and 4% of retired faculty and staff support the university financially, in addition to their professional contributions.
Participation by friends enables those who care about Boston and the Commonwealth to nurture new generations of talented and engaged citizens to contribute to our region's economic and cultural life.
