Urban Scholars Impact On MeThe Urban Scholars program is helping me prepare for college by the way it runs. The program starts at a specific time and the teachers are stricter than others I have in regular school. This helps me focus, the amount of work teaches me time management, and there is always someone to help if I ask for it. All of the classes are helping me prepare for college. I have to do research and write essays. I now understand math as a concept not just numbers. Since joining Urban Scholars, my math skills have improved and I am passing every test and learning new ways to solve problems. Before I came to Urban Scholars, I was never confident enough to raise my hand in math class to answer questions, but now I am usually the first one to do so or go up to the board to solve a question. I am also learning Mandarin, and that is not an opportunity I would have gotten without this program. Being Part of 25 Years of HistoryI’ve learned a lot about this program through making the website. The part that impressed me most was the amount of people who have been through the program and what they’ve become in their lives. Being in the Urban Scholars program, and seeing all the successful people that came from it; I believe that I will also be great in life. This is by far the greatest experience in my life as a young girl who has big dreams. My DreamIn the future, I want to make a difference in the world by using what I learned from Urban Scholars and all the wonderful things it has to offer My plans for the future are to graduate high school and go to Northeastern University and on to law school. I would like to be a lawyer, judge, or an FBI agent. My sister and I are the first ones to go to college; my parents did not have the chance to. The big dream that my college education will help me fulfill is to get a good job so that my parents won’t ever have to work again. I want to make a difference in the world by using what I’m learning from Urban Scholars and all the wonderful things it has to offer to start my own program to help other young girls my age to realize their true potential. |
