So, ya wanna be a talk show host?
Urban Scholars students become video producers
Long before we were born, Urban Scholars was a dream for co-founders
Charles Desmond and Joan Becker. They recognized the enormous, untapped
talent of Boston's youth and invested in us.
To learn how a program grows from idea to success, we researched Urban Scholars' history and showcased what we learned on our own talk show, UrbanNet. Our first step was to read a chapter on co-founder Dr. Charles Desmond from Tom Brokow's book, Boom!: Voices of the Sixties, Personal Reflections on the '60s and Today. Then we did everything that the professionals do, including sifting through boxes of program photos to chose the ones featured here. While Cecil and Ivy played the "starring roles," we learned that a successful program involves many "behind-the-scenes" professionals.
Special thanks to Director of Corporation and Foundation Relations
Ellen Fleming, Web Designer Lisa Link, and Media Center professionals
John Jessoe and John Mazzarella for their support of UrbanNet.
