Endowment
The greatness of endowment is its permanence. Endowment is a hedge against future financial challenges. It represents a steadfast "savings account in perpetuity" which generates a flow of income annually. A gift toward endowment exemplifies a donor's enduring belief in the university's mission.
A legacy for your greatest hopes
In 2008 the market value of the University of Massachusetts endowment is $360 million. UMass Boston's portion represents a modest $28 million of this amount. This is why, when you support endowment here, you make a significant difference in the progress of our university. Like few other entities in life, UMass Boston embodies lasting values — love of learning, knowledge for human betterment, service to society, opportunity for all — all of which you promote for the long term through an endowment gift.
What's more, an endowment gift can perpetuate another lasting value, the deep influence of those we love. Donors can establish named endowments to honor or memorialize someone esteemed and at the same time support a cherished cause. Consider the lasting impact you can inspire with an investment of as little as $25,000.
Responsibly managed for dependability and growth
Endowment funds are permanent funds with disciplined longer term investment objectives and strategies that accommodate relevant, reasonable or probable events. The University of Massachusetts Foundation manages the university’s endowment. Its Investment Committee ensures a total return necessary to preserve and enhance the principal of the funds and, at the same time, provide a dependable source of income for designated programs. Unrestricted endowment is equally critical, as it provides enduring support for the overall health of the university.
When you make a gift to endowment at UMass Boston, your funds, while managed by the UMass Foundation, wholly support the particular college, center or institute, or program you designate. The foundation accepts gifts in the form of cash, stocks, bonds, personal property, and real estate, as well as estate and deferred gifts.
