Lampas Society
"Attending Teachers College of the City of Boston in the 1940s made my whole world different. I was able to have a career as a teacher, an occupation I had always wanted. I am pleased to assist the college — now a major university — that made possible such a satisfying career for me."
Margaret Conway

The Lampas Society, established in 2006, is a society of forward-thinking individuals who have included UMass Boston in their future estate plans. Beginning in 1928, "Lampas" was the name given to the Teachers College yearbook representing the torch of inspiration lighting the path toward the ideals of the university. Today this torch still lights our way, and its glow keeps us ever vigilant in pursuit of our urban mission.
The Lampas Society recognizes alumni, faculty, and friends who support the university regardless of the size of their planned gift. Giving may be made through a bequest, life income gift arrangement, retirement plan ( IRA, 401(k), 403(b)) life insurance policy, real estate gift, bequest, and other estate intentions.
In its first two years, the Lampas Society has grown significantly. Members receive:
- a special pin that recognizes gifts and/or estate intentions;
- the Lampas Society newsletter, which highlights various estate planning vehicles; and
- invitations to several Society events throughout the year, including an annual luncheon featuring Chancellor J. Keith Motley, Ph.D.
We express our deepest appreciation to members of the Lampas Society for their commitment to UMass Boston and for carrying on our university’s legacy of education for all. For more information about the Lampas Society, or to become a member, please contact Carolyn J. Flynn, assistant vice chancellor for planned giving, at (617) 287-5336 or carolyn.flynn@umb.edu.
Join us for our upcoming Events
The Lampas Society Luncheon: Friday, May 16.
We look forward to sharing with you news of the past year at UMass Boston and to welcoming our new members.
