About Us — VDC Status
The VDC has twenty-two active projects across the university. These activities range from assisting our partners create new science and technology initiatives, develop business models and commercialize the results of completed research. It has mobilized over $1.4 million in seed investment for these activities.
In addition, $5.5 million in external funds has been raised for construction of the VDC's future home in Wheatley Hall, currently scheduled to be completed in fall 2008.
An important part of the VDC's mission is to assist in carrying-out the strategic plan for multidisciplinary research. Four clusters, which integrate diverse research competencies, are developing recommendations to enhance capacity to partner with industry and other institutions to meet today's complex challenges. These clusters are described in the report, "Research Reenvisioned for the 21st Century: Expanding the Reach of Scholarship at the University of Massachusetts Boston."
