The University of Massachusetts Boston hockey program is what drew Boston native Jimmy Ennis (’12, College of Nursing and Health Sciences) to the UMass Boston campus.

“Even though I live 15 minutes away, I chose to come here because of hockey and the education I could get here,” he says. “I’m going to be a senior this year and, at a very cost-effective price, I have learned everything that I need to know that will allow me to go on to graduate school.”

Ennis has had to juggle his studies with an internship at Tufts Medical Center and jobs both on and off campus. This year he is also the captain of the men’s ice hockey team.

“I chose to play hockey here at UMass Boston because over the past five years, they’ve really made a change as far as athletics, the buildings, and the fan-to-athlete interaction,” Ennis says.

Ennis says thanks in part to the addition of Coach Peter Belisle, students from all over the country are coming to UMass Boston to play hockey, giving Ennis an opportunity to meet the people who have shaped his life over the last four years.

“Deciding to come to UMass Boston has been a very rewarding decision,” he says. “It’s made a difference in my life and I hope it will do the same for others.”
