The Department of Curriculum and Instruction houses two programs: Teacher Education and Special Education. The accelerated program, Teach Next Year, is part of our department as well.
The Teacher Education program offers undergraduate, master’s, and post-master’s programs leading to initial and professional licensure.
Special Education offers graduate programs leading to initial and professional licensure in moderate disabilities.
All of the department’s teacher preparation programs are accredited by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Consistent with the missions of the College of Education and Human Development and the university, the department is committed to providing students with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to promote professional excellence, the understanding that culture and world view shape meaning in every aspect of individual and group life, the ability to engage in critical and creative inquiry and in continuous learning, and the recognition of the instructional advantages of new technologies.
