The UMass Boston offerings in special education are focused on social justice in urban schools, emphasizing students with disabilities and the knowledge, dispositions and practices necessary to combat disproportional representation.
Two programs are offered: Moderate Disabilities and Transition Leadership. The Moderate Disabilities program prepares individuals to teach students with moderate disabilities at both special education and inclusive settings, while the Transition Leadership prepares licensed special educators and vocational rehabilitation counselors to work with students with disabilities ages 14-22 on transition planning.
