MaryAnn Byrnes , EdD
Associate Professor of Special Education, College of Education and Human Development
Dr. MaryAnn Byrnes teaches courses in Language Acquisition and Theories of Reading as well as Legal & Political Issues in Special Education.
Dr. Byrnes is President of the Massachusetts Council of Exceptional Children and a past president of the Massachusetts Association of Administrators of Special Education (ASE). She is a member of several advisory committees to the Massachusetts Department of Education and works with schools to ensure that students with disabilities are fairly included in assessment programs.
Dr. Byrnes earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago, her master’s degree at Northwestern University and her doctorate at Rutgers University. Dr. Byrnes’ research focuses on the translation of theory and legal policy into effective school practices for students with disabilities.
