Tricia M. Kress is Associate Professor and graduate program director of the Urban Education, Leadership and Policy Studies doctoral program at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her research uses critical pedagogy, cultural sociology, and auto/ethnography to rethink teaching, learning and research in urban schools. She details this approach in her 2011 textbook Critical Praxis Research: Breathing New Life into Research Methods for Teachers. In April 2014, she and her co-editor Robert Lake (Georgia Southern University) received The Society of Professors of Education Book Award for their edited volume Paulo Freire’s Intellectual Roots: Toward Historicity in Praxis. She has published in numerous peer viewed journals and served as guest editor for the International Journal of Critical Pedagogy and Review of Education, Pedagogy and Cultural Studies. She is the author or editor of numerous books published by major publishing houses including Springer, Continuum, Sense and Information Age. She serves as co-editor of the book series Imagination and Praxis: Criticality and Creativity in Education and Educational Research with Sense Publishers.
