Announcements

  • Workshop policy: A minimum of 10 students is required to run each workshop. Workshops with fewer than 10 students enrolled will be subject to cancellation.
  • Payment policy: The workshop cost must be received 5 business days prior to the workshop. Your registration is not complete until payment is received.
  • Workshop cost is non-refundable unless cancelled by the university. Students may reschedule to a future date if unable to attend their scheduled workshop.

 

COMMUNICATION & LITERACY MTEL WORKSHOP

This workshop will cover both the Reading and Writing subtests of the Communication and Literacy MTEL. We will go over the test objectives, sample questions, test-taking strategies, and have some laughs while doing it. We will go over grammar in context, rather than as an isolated topic. We will also cover some MTEL logistics questions.

Time: 9:00AM-3:00PM

Workshop Cost: $125 payable to UMass Boston by check or money order.

Materials Cost: $25 payable to the instructor, Kevin Ziomek, by check or money order on the day of the workshop.

FOUNDATIONS OF READING MTEL WORKSHOPS

In preparation for the Foundations of Reading MTEL

FOUNDATIONS OF READING MTEL WORKSHOP: PART II

This year we are also offering a new option for participants who have already taken the MTEL Foundations of Reading Workshop with Jennifer Yeager in the past but are seeking additional supportThis new workshop will provide additional practice with multiple choice and open response questions and will look more deeply at some of the topics introduced in the first workshop.

Participants will need to bring a copy of their Foundations of Reading study guide with them.  If you need to purchase a new copy, please let us know in advance (at the time of registration).

GENERAL CURRICULUM MULTI SUBJECT WORKSHOP

This workshop is designed to prepare students to succeed on the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL) General Curriculum Multi-Subject exam. During the workshop, students will be exposed to the most commonly used English Language Arts, Science and Technology and Historical terminology given on the exam. Students will review proper MTEL test-taking strategies, review the scoring rubric for the written response portion and will be able to try actual test questions with instant answer analysis. Due to the fact that this exam covers a wide variety of subject areas and grade level content, students will be given the opportunity to create their own guided study index cards after they are able to watch over 40 short and informational videos as a whole group.

GENERAL CURRICULUM MATH MTEL PREPARATION WORKSHOP

The workshop is a comprehensive, intensive workshop to prepare students for the General Curriculum Math Subtest MTEL. We'll review the math in each category - starting with the concepts and ideas. Once students understand what it is, we'll then work on developing ways to do it quickly and correctly. We'll then look at how the questions appear on the test - we'll use basic testing strategies and what we covered to quickly and easily solve the problems.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE WORKSHOP

This workshop is designed to assist students in passing the ESL MTEL. 

Students are asked to complete the ESL practice MTEL prior to attending this workshop.  Practice tests can be found here.

EARLY CHILDHOOD WORKSHOP

This workshop covers the Early Childhood MTEL.  Students will gain experience looking at sample multiple choise questions, reviewing key concepts, and thinking through sample open response questions.
