All students enrolled in the graduate program in American Studies are required to take six core courses (See AMST 601-606 below; click on links to see full course descriptions). These courses introduce the methods, subject matter, and core literature of American Studies historically and as it is practiced today. Electives may be selected from qualifying offerings in other departments, through the John F. Kennedy Library American Studies Summer Institute, and in Independent Study in consultation with the graduate program director. Students completing their final project are required to enroll in AMST 688, the final project writing seminar.
