Students completing a Master’s Degree in the Department of Applied Linguistics have the option to complete the requirements for the English as a Second Language (ESL) Teaching License PK-6 and 5-12.  Licensure services are a courtesy offered only to matriculated Applied Linguistics students.  Online students please note that licensure services are not available to our online students.

Students interested in licensure are strongly encouraged upon entering the program to attend a licensure information session, usually offered in mid-September and mid-February. This information session is very important to help you determine if you need ESL licensure and what steps to take in order to obtain licensure.  Information about upcoming Licensure Information Sessions will be posted to:

All students interested in Licensure should read the Licensure Handbook which contains information about procedures and requirements for obtaining ESL licensure while concurrently completing the MA in Applied Linguistics.  You can download the handbook here: Licensure Handbook 2017-2018
