Anthony Phelps teaches classes focusing on Design and Technology for Theatre and is the resident scenic and lighting designer for the university's theatre program. Professor Phelps has taught for over 15 years at several universities including Emerson College, University of Kentucky and Bradley University. While teaching Anthony has remained active as a freelance scenic and lighting designer and scenic artist. His work has been seen at North Shore Music Theatre; The Nora Theatre; Boston Playwright’s Theatre; Boston Children’s Theatre; New England Conservatory; Providence Black Rep; Central City Opera; and Theatre L’Homme Dieu. His film credits include The Equalizer; Grown Ups 2; Here Comes the Boom; That's My Boy; The Departed; The Women; and My Best Friend's Girl. He is a member of United Scenic Artists and IATSE.
Professor Phelps has been an active member of the United State Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) since 1996. He has also held several positions in the national organization, including Lighting Commissioner; Vice-Commissioner for Scenic Art; Vice-Commissioner for Programming: Lighting Commission; and Paint Lab Coordinator. He is currently the Region Chair for the New England Chapter of USITT.
In addition to his professional service Professor Phelps is active in university service as well. He has been a member of the planning committee for the new General Academic Building, which will house the Performing Arts Department beginning in spring 2016. In addition, he is active as a member of the Faculty Senate and the Senate Executive Committee.
