In addition to overseeing the Center on Media and Society, Frank Herron directs the journalistic work of the New England Ethnic Newswire. He teaches in the political science and communication studies departments at University of Massachusetts Boston.
He has a master's degree in media studies from Syracuse University and a bachelor's degree in history from Cornell University.
He worked as an editor and staff writer for more than eighteen years at The Post Standard newspaper in Syracuse, New York, and taught news writing as an adjunct instructor at Syracuse University's Newshouse School of Public Communications for thirteen years.
He is keenly interested in fostering an appreciation of the value newspapers have as historical sources and is an elected member of the American Antiquarian Society. He is on the Advisory Council of the Egan Maritime Institute in Nantucket. In addition, he is an editor and partner in Cambridge-based TidePool Press.
