Featured CLCDN Graduate:
Ana C. Duarte is an original member from the cohort one CLCDN pilot program. She graduated from UMass Boston in May 2008 as a second degree student and began working in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at MGH through the New Graduate in Critical Care Program and still currently works as a staff nurse in the PACU.
While earning her 1st Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Neuroscience at Northeastern University (NU), she conducted academic research and was eventually published by the Journal of Neuropharacoloy. Upon graduating NU, she worked for the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) partaking in clinical trials with latent tuberculosis with underserved populations. She worked side by side many nurses, one in particular who inspired her into nursing and that is how she ended up at UMass Boston.
As part of the CLCDN, she recognized the significance and support that the program provided and after completing her degree, working a few years, has decided to return to school this Fall 2011 and pursue a PhD in Population Health with a focus on health disparities at UMass Boston.
Currently Ana volunteers for the Global Smile Foundation (GSF) and will be travelling to Ecuador in March 2012 to help repair cleft/lip pallets of children and adults.
