Leadership Theory and Practice in Higher Education

Description:
This elective course focuses on dimensions of leadership theory and practice as they relate to colleges and universities. Mainstream theoretical traditions, including trait, situational, behavioral, and contingency, will be examined. Alternative perspectives within social constructionist, postmodern, and critical theory traditions will serve as an important counterbalance to the more dominant approaches. Course readings will also examine underrepresented perspectives in higher education leadership, which may include gender, race, ethnicity, culture, and social class. Course projects will enable students to improve their abilities to analyze and interpret leadership contexts in different higher education settings.
