Baroque Art In Italy

This course concerns Baroque art and architecture in Italy circa 1580-1680. It examines art in the context of religious reform, scientific discoveries, and political absolutism to determine how these developments informed the style, subject matter(both religious and secular) and functions of art in society. Artists to be studied include Caravaggio, Bernini, Borromini, Claude, Poussin, and Guarini.
