UMass Boston

Research

Research is a major focus on campus. As a public university, we have access to millions of dollars in federal and state grants to fund our research.

Participating in significant, independent research early in your science or mathematics career is a distinct advantage. As an undergraduate, you will have a head start applying what you learned in class. Data collection, experimentation, observation, and calculation are fundamental research skills you’ll develop. Graduate students can expect small classes and mentoring by professors dedicated to your success in the laboratory and in your career.

Our faculty excel in three particular areas of research:

  1. molecular sciences
  2. computational sciences
  3. environmental sciences

The Integrated Sciences Complex provides state-of-the-art laboratories, classrooms, and ample areas for collaboration. The showcase Sandbox Laboratory is a location for short-term research activities with a wide variety of topics.
