Jere Miller 617-287-5874
Jere Miller attended the University of Pennsylvania after his enlistment in the Marine Corps. He graduated in 2006 with a degree in Economic History. While studying for his Bachelor’s, Jere was the Program Assistant for the UPenn Veterans Upward Bound program. In 2008 Jere returned to UPenn VUB as an educational counselor. In 2012 he received his Master’s in Nonprofit Leadership and Social Innovation also from UPenn. Jere completed the 2005 30th anniversary Marine Corps Marathon and plans to run it again in the near future. Jere hails from a long line of educators, and Jere’s own passion is to aid every veteran that he encounters that seeks education.
Linda Mitchell 617-287-5871
Linda, the daughter of a Navy veteran, is an Army veteran who served in the signal corps. She attended the Veterans Upward Bound Program in the summer of 1998 and has been with the program, in many capacities, ever since. While working for the program, she has received degree in psychology and a certificate in substance abuse counseling from the University of Massachusetts. As the Retention Advisor she loves working with veterans, helping them to achieve their full potential. While not working, she spends some of her time gardening and watching Independent Films.
Lovelle Seymore 617-287-5873
Lovelle joined Veterans Upward Bound as an Assistant Outreach Advisor in 2012. She served on active duty in the United States Air Force from 1994-2001. After her active duty service she worked as a Senior Analyst for the Electronic Systems Center at Hanscom Air Force Base for the next ten years. Lovelle is an alumnus of Veterans Upward Bound class of 2005. Currently she is working on her Master’s in Education Administration program at UMass Boston. Her motto is “Success through teamwork”. She enjoys most sports and hiking with her dog in the woods.
Eileen Dranetz 617-287-5872
Eileen Dranetz joined the Veterans Upward Bound Program as Administrative Assistant in October 2012. She has a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Gwynedd-Mercy University. Eileen has dedicated her life to public service working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 24 years both at the University of Massachusetts Boston and the Department of Environmental Protection. Eileen enjoys photography, computers, and Star Trek in her spare time.
Arthur Griffin 617-287-5870
Art (Arthur) Griffin is a graduate of Veterans Upward Bound, where he has become motivated to pursue higher education. Art graduated from Bunker Hill Community College, with high honors, in June 2010. He transferred to UMass Boston, where he is completing his Bachelor's degree in Social Psychology. Art plans to continue his education at UMass Boston, pursuing a Certification in Addictions Counseling. Art is an Army Veteran who served with the First Infantry Division in Vietnam, as a radio operator. He then completed 13 years of service as a senior radio repairman. After discharge from the regular army, Art joined the active reserve, where he served as a drill instructor for six years. Art started working with Veterans Upward Bound as a work study student in the Spring of 2013, and is currently employed as a part-time office assistant . He enjoys assisting fellow veterans with their pursuits of higher education and fulfilling their aspirations.
Haverhill Retention Advisor
Nancy Slaughter 978-372-3626
Nancy has a Masters in Education and has experience working in higher education both domestically and internationally. She has taught developmental reading, writing and math classes and has worked closely with students in support and retention. Her time is divided between Veterans Upward Bound programs in Haverhill and Brockton.
