Frank Herron, Director
In addition to overseeing the Center on Media and Society, Frank Herron teaches in the political science and communication studies departments at University of Massachusetts Boston.
He has a master's degree in media studies from Syracuse University and a bachelor's degree in history from Cornell University.
He worked as an editor and staff writer for more than 18 years at The Post Standard newspaper in Syracuse, NY, and taught news writing as an adjunct instructor at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications for 13 years.
He is keenly interested in fostering an appreciation of the value newspapers have as historical sources and is an elected member of the American Antiquarian Society. He is on the Advisory Council of the Egan Maritime Institute in Nantucket. In addition, he is an editor and partner in Cambridge-based TidePool Press.
He and his wife lived in Singapore in early 2011. His blog, Four Months in Singapore, has been viewed by people (or machines) in 92 countries.
And, since April 2006, he has written a blog that keeps track of what was in the news 100 years ago on a given day.
