Research in this Focus area includes using sensors to detect disease, contamination, and changes in the coastal landscape.  Projects might include installing and monitoring sensors in the field or using LiDAR instruments and mapping to observe coastal erosion.  Another research group focuses on the development of easy-to-use, low-cost sensors for detecting environmental pathogens or contaminants. These sensors can be used by citizen scientists to measure contamination in their home communities.
