Geochemistry and Climate Change

SFE_REUscholar_Aug19_hcp_820_350.jpg

Research in this Focus area uses analytical and experimental approaches to understand how trace metals cycle and accumulate in the ocean and how oceans regulate climate.   Projects in Geochemistry and Climate Change may include measuring and understanding how metals and nutrients are distributed within stratified waterbodies or measuring chemical indicators or proxies in sediments to reconstruct past climates.  Students working in this Focus area should expect some field work and extensive benchwork in the lab.
