Research

By becoming multidisciplinary, the Center for Social Development and Education is able to bridge the gap between research and practice. CSDE uses its research base to inform the expansion of its professional development programs, curriculum development projects, and technical assistance to schools. In turn, these practice activities inform the development of new programmatic research endeavors, ensuring that the research being conducted at CSDE remains relevant and responsive to the needs of the educational community. Further, CSDE goes beyond its funded projects to provide outreach activities to schools, often well after the funded project has been completed. These outreach activities yield important knowledge that helps generate new research projects, thus completing the cycle of research-to-practice and practice-to-research. The ability of CSDE to successfully bridge the gap between research and practice can best be demonstrated by highlighting the center’s ongoing initiatives.
