Elder Economic Security

The center’s focus on the economic security of older adults is central to current and future projects aimed at addressing the wellbeing of New England’s older residents. CSDRA’s continued research in this important area is expected to result in outputs that will be useful to state and national-level policymakers, as well as family caregivers, service providers, aging advocates, and leaders in local communities.

Recent work, conducted by UMass Boston's Gerontology Institute, has culminated in the Elder Economic Security Standard Index (Elder Index), a newly developed, state-by-state measure of income needed by older adults to maintain independence and meet their daily living costs. This work is expected to continue within CSDRA.
