  • Latina/o/x Archival Researchers

Latinx archival researchers in Sociology, History, and the Humanities have for the past decade have been engaged in several key debates. Some emphasize the importance of Latina/o/xs in shaping the trajectory of U.S. history and wrestle with understanding the place of Latina/o/xs in archival and historical research. Others seek to challenge established views on the meanings of archival tools and methods and endeavor to open new lines of inquiry. Others still are troubled by the challenge of uncovering archives relevant to the history of Latinos in the U.S. and want to reimagine ways to increase the Latina/o/x public’s access to archival materials relevant to their own histories. Motivated by these ongoing debates, we will host a “charla” in which participants will deepen the audience’s understanding of how researchers delve into the social world of the archives, how Latinidad shapes our perspectives, relationships in the field, and research findings, and how we as researchers can promote Latina/o/x interests within and beyond the archives.
