Member of the Facilities Department staff provide operations, maintenance and repair support for the university’s 11 main campus buildings and grounds, covering more than 2 million gross square feet of space and 120 acres of grounds.
Most operations, maintenance and repair work is performed based on work orders submitted by members of the university community or auto-generated by the Facilities Department Work Management System (e.g., Preventive Maintenance work orders).
The primary method for submitting a work order is via the UMass Boston Customer Service Center. Work Orders can be submitted via the Customer Service Center by calling 617-287-4000 (TTY: 617-287-4050). The hours of operation for the Customer Service Center are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The Customer Service Center is also available via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. In addition, a work order can be submitted through the Heat Self-Service feature found on the Customer Service Center webpage.
When submitting a Work Order, it is important that you provide the following information:
- First and last name of the requestor
- Telephone number and email address for the requestor
- The exact location of the problem being reported and/or work is to be performed
- A full description of the work requested
It is also possible to contact the Facilities Department Service Response Desk by calling 617-287-5450. This number is answered by Service Response staff Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM. Outside of those hours, calls to 617-287-5450 are automatically forwarded to Utility staff who maintain watch over utility systems on campus 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. You can also track information on your work order via the Facilities Department on-line application, Facilities iService (FiS). The Facilities Department Service Response Desk is located in the Service and Supply Building, Upper Level, Room 001.
