Political Journalist and Commentator
A widely heard voice on American politics and a senior scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, Linda Killian is a columnist for U.S. News & World Report.com, has written for national newspapers from The Washington Post to the Los Angeles Times, and has made appearances on CNN, "Hardball with Chris Matthews,” C-SPAN, MSNBC and the Fox News Channel. She is also the founder and former director of the Boston University Washington Center, which trains student journalists in political reporting. In her latest book, The Swing Vote: The Untapped Power of Independents, published in January of this year, Killian tells stories from the 40 percent of American voters who identify as Independents—and who make up the largest voting bloc in the nation, determining the outcome of every election since World War II. With The Swing Vote, Killian makes the case that these voters feel ignored by their elected officials, and explains how the disconnect between their needs and politicians’ priorities can and should be bridged.
