Policy and Leadership

Research into policy and leadership in international and comparative education focuses on educational policy-making and implementation at global, national, and localized levels. The study of policy and leadership connects policies and their design with access to, equity within, and quality of education globally. Moreover, this strand includes study into leadership in education at the global policy, national government, state, district and school level.

Conflict and Peacebuilding

IICE-affiliated faculty with expertise in this strand: Francine Menashy, Karen Ross, Ana Solano-Campos, Zeena Zakharia 

Research in conflict and peacebuilding in international and comparative education is concerned with addressing direct and structural forms of violence. It examines the relationships between education, state fragility, and conflict and identifies context specific ways to transform conflict at the individual, community, national, and international levels. Research in this strand seeks to inform policies, practices, and pedagogies that promote nonviolent social change towards a just and sustainable peace.

Evaluation and Quality Assurance

Research into evaluation and quality assurance in international and comparative education focuses on methodologies and design in evaluating educational programs and initiatives at global, national and localized levels. Quality assurance, more specifically, addresses the various issues, frameworks and approaches to measuring quality within education systems and educational institutions. Globalization and Migration

IICE-affiliated faculty with expertise in this strand: Gerardo Blanco-Ramirez, Francine Menashy, Katalin Szelényi, Ana Salano-Campos, Zeena Zakharia

Studies of globalization and migration focus on a globalized educational environment from cultural, political and economic perspectives. It involves the movement of populations and, more specifically, students between and within countries. 

Comparative Inclusive Education

IICE-affiliated faculty with expertise in this strand: Donna DeGennaro, Angela Stone-MacDonald, Felicia Wilczenski, 

Research in comparative inclusive education is concerned with addressing the learning needs of all children, youth, and adults. It makes central the heterogeneity of learners in informing the development of policies, practices, and pedagogies that promote Education for All. Research in this strand examines educational issues that affect individuals and communities who are vulnerable to marginalization due to ability, poverty, racial and ethnic discrimination, language, citizenship status, and other designations that lead to social and educational exclusion.
