About the Department
The economics department at the University of Massachusetts Boston offers an undergraduate major and minor, an accelerated BA/MA, and a MA in Applied Economics.
The department, situated in the College of Liberal Arts, has distinguished faculty with a reputation for high-quality applied economic research, innovative curriculum, and student mentoring. Our faculty members include well-known heterodox economists, specializing in feminist, institutional, behavioral, Marxian, and post-Keynesian approaches.
Undergraduate courses in applied, theoretical and quantitative analysis prepare students for careers in the financial world, law and public service, or for graduate studies in economics and in other fields. Our Applied Economics graduate program trains students with practical research and analytical tools for a career in government, education, NGOs, nonprofits, research and consulting firms, and private businesses including insurance, banking, telecommunications, environmental services and transportation.
