Beyond the Classroom

Work-Study Position in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Office

If you are a minor or major with a work-study award, check to see whether there is an opening in our department office. You may have the opportunity to put together our department newsletter or help out with the day-to-day running of the department, and organize events to recruit and retain majors and minors in women's, gender, and sexuality studies.

Internships

We encourage students to integrate theory and practice, and continually to make connections between academic study and life in the world outside the university. Our department’s Internship/Field Work requirement, WOST 490/491, expresses this commitment in a concrete way. (more info)

Research and Teaching Assistantships

In addition to offering occasional  research assistantships in which students work closely with faculty on their research-in-progress, we also offer a number of  teaching assistantships, which allow independent study or internship credit for training in many aspects of college teaching including course design, feminist pedagogy and strategies of providing support to students as they prepare for exams and complete assignments. We recommend our students reach out to their professor to inquire about both research and teaching assistantships; opportunities vary each semester.
