Leadership Discovery is an emerging co-curricular introductory program designed for UMass Boston students to build their leadership skills through interactive workshops, guest speakers, and peer interaction. There are two ways to participate: workshop series and the certificate program.
Students can register for any workshop offered through the program. Space is limited to 25 students so register early. Students can register up until the day prior to the workshop.
The Certificate Programs are designed to offer student a developmental sequence to understand a particular area of leadership. This is for students who want to commit to participating in workshops throughout the semester.
Currently we are offering 2 certificate tracks:
- General Leadership: gain a better understanding of leadership, greater sense of self, and how to work with others
- Service: gain a better competence of how to be an effective leader in the community and learn how to create positive change
We will offer 3 types of workshops this semester: Leadership, Service and Personal Development.
Students involved with a Certificate Program must attend the program orientation to learn about requirements for graduation and learn more specifics about the program.
In addition to the core workshops, students must complete additional workshop requirements (electives) for their specific track. Students must attend a minimum of 4 elective workshops that qualify for their track. For each workshop completed, students must write a paragraph reflection at the end of each session. After completion of all workshops and reflections student will be recognized and receive a Certificate of Leadership at the Beacon Awards.
