UMass Boston Icers Off to Best Start Since 1987-88 Season
The University of Massachusetts Boston men’s hockey team is off to a fast start, and their 7-2-1 record has earned them some national attention. The team is ranked No. 14 out of 79 Division III teams in this week’s D3Hockey.com poll, which was released Monday.
This is Peter Belisle’s seventh season as head coach, and the first time during his tenure that the team has been ranked nationally.
“I’m very happy to be ranked, especially with this many freshmen on the team, but we certainly are not satisfied,” Belisle said.
The Beacons aren’t just good, they’re young—13 of the 27 skaters on the roster are freshmen. One of those freshmen, Max Reavis of Omaha, Nebraska, was named the ECAC East conference’s Rookie of the Week on Monday. Another first-year Beacon, Peter MacIntyre of Norfolk, was honored last week.
The Beacons go into the winter break with a six-game unbeaten streak and the team’s best record since the 1987-88 season. Their next game is on January 5, when they host Wentworth Institute of Technology in the first round of the Codfish Bowl Tournament.
