Nantucket Biodiversity Initiative (NBI)
The Nantucket Biodiversity Initiative http://www.nantucketbiodiversityinitiative.org is a partnership between Nantucket conservation organizations, universities, non-governmental organizations, and individuals interested in documenting the biodiversity of the islands and adjacent waters and monitoring and conserving that biodiversity over time.
NBI facilitates research activities and data dissemination between individual researchers, Nantucket conservation organizations, and the general public. This effort is a partnership between Nantucket conservation organizations, government agencies, universities, and individuals interested in documenting the biodiversity of the islands and adjacent waters and monitoring and conserving that biodiversity over time.
Participating partners include the Linda Loring Nature Foundation, Maria Mitchell Association, Massachusetts Audubon Society, Massachusetts Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program, Nantucket Conservation Foundation, Nantucket Garden Club, Nantucket Islands Land Bank Commission, Nantucket Land Council, The Trustees of Reservations, Tuckernuck Land Trust, and University of Massachusetts Boston Nantucket Field Station.
The Nantucket Field Station has been a primary partner in the NBI since 2004 and provides support for visiting scientists and naturalists. The NBI is seeking proposals to conduct research that expands knowledge of understudied taxonomic groups and the overall biodiversity of Nantucket, Tuckernuck, and/or Muskeget Islands.
