Beacons Sports: Men’s, Women’s Soccer Earn Shutout Wins in Conference Openers

Volleyball on a 10-Game Win Streak

The men’s and women’s soccer teams have both started their seasons strong in the Little East Conference.

Men’s Soccer Team on a Three-Game Win Streak
The men’s soccer team is on a three-game win streak, including the 4-0 conference win over the University of Southern Maine and a 6-0 win over Salem State University. Junior goalkeeper Alfonso Rosales of Revere picked up the two shutouts for the Beacons. On Monday, senior forward Rolando Barbosa of Fogo, Cape Verde was named this week’s LEC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring goals in both shutout wins. Sophomore Matheus Reis of Somerville was named the Defensive Player of the Week for keeping the Beacons opponents off of the board.

Senior Netminder Has Held Opponents Scoreless for 225 Minutes
Goalkeeper Dani Perkins, a senior from Murrieta, California, has held opponents scoreless for 225 minutes. Perkins has posted back-to-back shutouts and has stopped all eight shots she's faced this season. Junior Kara Peters of Agawam, senior Ericka Garufi of Milton, and senior Krista Ledin of Bridgewater all scored for the Beacons in a 3-0 conference win over the University of Southern Maine on Saturday. Ledin now has 85 goals as a Beacon and 192 points. Freshman Marina Kelly of Whitman scored twice in the 4-0 win over Colby-Sawyer College on September 17, and earned conference Rookie of the Week honors.

Women’s Volleyball on a 10-Game Win Streak
Currently ranked second in New England, the Beacons remain undefeated in in-region play as they continue their most impressive win-streak since the 2011 season – 10 games. The Beacons shut out Middlebury College, Whitman College, Salve Regina University, and Rhode Island College. Coach Terry Condon picked up her 400th career win against Rhode Island College.

Freshman Runner Picks up Second Conference Honor
At Saturday’s UMass Dartmouth Invitational, Freshman Melissa Coble of North Kingstown, Rhode Island shaved two minutes, 20 seconds from her first 5K with the Beacons back on September 6, and on Monday, picked up her second Rookie Runner of the Week honors.

Women’s, Men’s Tennis Pick Up First Wins of Season
The women’s tennis team picked up their first win of the season on September 18, blanking Eastern Nazarene College 9-0. Junior Logan Smith of Southwick, and sophomores Kelsey Shea of West Bridgewater and Kathleen Conroy of Quincy each picked up their first two victories of the year.

Men’s tennis earned a 5-4 comeback win over Salve Regina University Sunday afternoon. Freshman Jae Park of Millsboro, Delaware, and sophomore Jack Wang of Suzhou, China were both 2-0 on the day.
