Volleyball Team on a Four-Game Win Streak
The women’s volleyball team is on a four-game win streak heading into this weekend’s UMass Boston Invitational, after sweeping last weekend’s Endicott Invitational.
The team’s 3-0 victory over Babson College on Friday gave Terry Condon her 200th win as the Beacons head coach. The reigning Co-Offensive Player of the Year, sophomore Julia Murphy of Canton, was named the Little East Conference Player of the Week for her 41 kills in the weekend tournament.
Men’s Soccer Player Named Conference, Regional Player of the Week
Junior Elton Teixeira of Boston has been named Offensive Player of the Week for both the LEC and Eastern College Athletic Conference New England. The transfer student scored the first goal of the Beacons season on August 30. The next day he followed up by netting three goals in less than two minutes to lead the Beacons to a 4-3 win over Thomas College.
Women’s Soccer Star Inching Closer to 200 Career Points
Senior Krista Ledin of Bridgewater is approaching 200 career points, a feat not yet accomplished by a Beacons player. Ledin has five points (two goals and an assist) in the young season, including the game-winning goal on September 3 in a 1-0 home win over Wesleyan University. She was also named the LEC Offensive Player of the Week for the ninth time in her career.
Meanwhile, freshman Hannah Petersen picked up the first goal of her collegiate career on Friday. The freshman fired a shot from the left side, which deflected off the Wilkes University goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
Cross Country Rookie Leads Team at Meet
UMass Boston has nine new runners on their cross-country teams this year. Both teams finished eighth at Saturday's Roger Williams University Invitational, led by Rookie Runner of the Week honoree Melissa Coble.
