Geotechnical borings to assist in design and preparation for construction of a future parking garage located between University Drive West and the Monan Park baseball complex at Boston College High School will start on Monday, March 28 for approximately three weeks, weather permitting.

This UMass Building Authority project is in an early design and programming phase and is currently planned to include up to 1,400 parking spaces, house new headquarters for the Department of Public Safety, and provide spaces to support Athletics and Recreation. The garage will be located on master plan site PW, which is on the bluff opposite the Service and Supply Building and the Integrated Sciences Complex.

The work will include two dump-truck-sized drill rigs boring up to 10 five-inch-wide holes, approximately 200 feet deep.

There are no anticipated impacts to traffic; University Drive West will remain open while this work proceeds. Pedestrians travelling through this area to and from BC High should use caution while walking alongside the construction vehicles.

The work is being performed in keeping with the Environmental Health and Safety/Department of Environmental Protection monitoring plans.
