Harbor Gallery Presents: “Broken Walls”

On exhibit in UMass Boston's student-run Harbor Gallery through May 7, "Broken Walls" features smoke, plaster, graphite, and found objects that make up auto-mythologies where both real and fictional (but altogether personal) portraits merge.

Through a process that is both time and labor intensive, artist Daphne Arthur utilizes the textures and patterns present in her work to offer a sense of culture that transcends time and geography. Drawing from a cosmopolitan heritage that includes Latin and African American roots, she uses history, particularly focused on Latin American and Caribbean nations, as the platform for her artistic investigation in "self invention, self representation, and creative self-sufficiency."

The public is invited to an opening reception on April 9 from 5 to 8 p.m.
