Jessica Downa, media specialist in the Educational Technology Department is the winner of the 2012 IT Customer Service Award.

Jessica Downa, media specialist in the Educational Technology Department is the winner of the 2012 IT Customer Service Award, Vice Provost and Chief Information Office Anne Agee announced earlier this month.

Here are some of the comments she has received from the community for her creative work and exceptional service.

Jessica has worked with faculty and CCER staff to record several teaching vignettes, which have been used in the classroom for student learning and in faculty development programs. The impact from these recordings is substantial, they provide valuable teaching tools as they can be designed to be short and specific (unlike many that you purchase) and thereby easily integrated into the classroom. They address multiple learning styles and have increased student and faculty engagement and lead to extensive discussion and deep learning. Jessica was knowledgeable in her recommendations around scripting and staging the scenes. She was extremely flexible and accommodating, always on time, well prepared and willing to go the extra mile to make this recordings the best possible. Faculty and students have been impressed by the professional quality of these recordings and increasingly faculty members are requesting to use the recordings and also requesting that other vignettes be recorded. Jessica' interest in student learning, her expertise and willingness to collaborate with the college has prompted renewed interest and commitment to more interactive and experiential learning in the classroom. We are truly grateful to her.

Jessica Downa has helped the OFD from the moment our office started by creating our video. All year she made flyers for our events (sometimes on short notice) and this past summer she was instrumental in making a new video orientation series for new faculty. New faculty have been expressing to me how grateful they are that this will be offered to orient them to the services and support office on campus. We could not have done this without Jessica. She is professional and always is thinking of ways to help us improve the projects that we ask her to work on.

It is a sincere pleasure to nominate Jessica Downa for recognition of her service.  I met Jessica last Spring when we talked about technology in the classroom. I said my greatest need was videos of different clinical situations. Since then, she video recorded three different scenarios that were used for a faculty development program and will be used in class next week. She has been a tremendous support and very helpful during the whole process. The videos and teaching methodology are extremely useful and stimulate wonderful discussions. She has been tremendously helpful in troubleshooting some of the technology.  In short, it's a pleasure working with Jessica and I appreciate her expertise.

For some ten years Jessica Downa has contributed to my success as an instructor who utilizes a range of technologies in my courses in music. This week, I will introduce her to my music theory classes as a "celebrity." That is what she is to me, this coming to me when APPLE asked for my favorite celebrity as a security measure. She's highly skilled and exceptionally knowledgeable, and she's always available to assist if not rescue me or introduce something new to look at. This she has done all these years, year-round, with complete focus coupled with endless cheerfulness. She is indeed a "celebrity" always on the prowl for yet another app, another question to me on how we both can further implement current technology in my music courses. She has been and continues to be above and beyond.

I always go to Jessica with my Apple questions. She has helped me with everything from locating forms online to develop training materials for the system I support. She knows how to qualify customers to deliver approachable directions and solutions to problems.
