On August 18, Justin T. Maher, PhD joined the McCormack Graduate School of Policy and Global Studies as the new assistant dean for academic programs.

A University of Massachusetts Boston alumnus with a BA in English and MA in American Studies, in his new role Maher will assist departments and academic programs with recruitment, program development, course approvals, admissions, enrollment, orientations, course scheduling, and student activities. Maher will also work with academic staff to integrate students into the activities of the college, help coordinate graduate student assistantship placement, as well as administer the school’s scholarship, internship, and fellowship programs. Additional duties include support to the dean, department chairs, and personnel committees for faculty tenure and promotion reviews.

Mayer brings a breadth of experience in educational administration from extensive time spent working at both the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the University of Maryland, where he completed his doctoral degree in American studies.

Dean Ira A. Jackson warmly welcomes Maher to his graduate school. “Justin is a team-oriented, higher education professional with nine years of progressive experience in project management, data-driven performance management, recruitment, and co-curricular programming that focuses on interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking, and community engagement. I’m delighted that he will bring his energy, passion, and creativity our leadership team.”

Jackson hosted a welcome luncheon for Justin Maher in the dean’s office suite on August 18 to meet all department chairs, center directors, and dean’s office staff. Maher met the administrative and professional staff of the college the following day at their annual staff appreciation luncheon.

Reflecting on his first few days on the job, Maher commented, "I’ve met a lot of hard-working and passionate people at the McCormack Graduate School, read the most recent annual report, and look forward to assisting with the school's continued growth and success. As a proud alumnus, I have watched UMass Boston thrive over the years and I am thrilled to be joining the team during a time of such unprecedented progress."
