Women’s Soccer to Play for Regular Season Little East Conference Title on Saturday

It’s been a big week for Beacons sports. The men’s soccer team won its first regular season Little East Conference title on Sunday, the volleyball team has won its sixth consecutive conference title on Tuesday, and the women’s soccer team could earn a conference title on Saturday.

Men’s Soccer Wins Program’s First Regular Season Conference Title

The men’s soccer team, which won its first regular season conference title on Sunday with a 2-0 win over Plymouth State University, goes into Saturday’s regular season finale against Rhode Island College ranked No. 10 in New England. Sophomore Arlindo Goncalves of Brockton was named the LEC’s Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for leading a defense that recorded back-to-back shutouts. The Beacons will be the No. 1 seed in the LEC tournament. This is the team’s first appearance in that tournament since 2006.

Volleyball Wins Sixth Straight Regular Season Conference Title

The Beacons enter next week’s LEC tournament as the No. 1 seed after earning their sixth consecutive regular season conference title on Tuesday with a 3-0 win over Plymouth State University. The Beacons, who were undefeated (7-0) in conference play this year, are playing in the Emory University Invitational in Georgia this weekend. UMass Boston will host the first and second rounds of the LEC tournament next weekend.

Women’s Soccer to Play for Regular Season Conference Title on Saturday

With a win on Saturday against Rhode Island College, the women’s soccer team will ensure themselves at least a share of the LEC regular season title.

Two weeks after earning her 200th career point, on Tuesday, senior Krista Ledin became the 30th woman in NCAA history to score 100 career goals. Her winning goal was also featured on ESPN's SportsCenter on Wednesday. Ledin's goal was no. 10 in the Top 10 Plays segment.

This honor was one of many Ledin received this week. The nursing major, who carries a 3.42 GPA, was named to the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District team on Thursday. On Monday, Ledin was named the LEC Offensive Player of the Week, and, for the second time this season, the Disney Soccer/National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III National Player of the Week for scoring five goals and four assists in three games last week.
