Concerto Competition

...we're looking to showcase the talent that exists throughout the community... -- Sommer Forrester, PhD

The Performing Arts Department announces auditions for a Concerto Competition. A new initiative, four winners will be selected by a jury to perform a movement at the Spring Concert of the UMass Boston Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Sommer Forrester, PhD.

“This is open to all UMass Boston students, not just music majors,” Forrester said. “This spring, we’re looking to showcase the talent that exists throughout this community, and share it with a wider audience.”

Auditions are for both instrumentalists and vocalists. Instrumentalists should prepare a movement from a concerto, vocalists should prepare an aria – both should need to arrange their own accompanist for the audition. Audition appointments are on December 2 and 9 from 5 to 8:30 pm. Email to schedule a time slot or ask questions.

The UMass Boston Chamber Orchestra’s fall concert, titled Truth, Lies, and the Human Condition, will be held Sunday, November 22 at 4 p.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom.
